It was the Roman Empire that brought the vine to Gaul around the first century and it is generations of talented winegrowers who have transmitted this Art to us for twenty centuries until today. They organized themselves to promote their wine trade, but it was not until 1935 that the Law on Controlled Appellations of Origin was promulgated. Professionals and oenologists then became attached to the notion of Terroir to classify their Domains or Châteaux and even more in Bordeaux.
Depending on the origin of the wines, they were classified into appellation areas such as Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien, Pessac-Léognan, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol to name only the most famous.
Faithful to its Charter, Best Cognac Champagne has retained within these Bordeaux Appellations, a certain number of these Châteaux wines whose qualities have been unanimous for several centuries and whose fame is worldwide.
